There is something incredibly nostalgic about the 16-bit era. As I continue to build out my creative portfolio for Theophora, I've decided to take a break from some of my larger builds to focus on this latest project. The "Home Sweet Home" cross-stitch pattern captures the cozy, pixelated charm of two gaming characters, well known in the gaming world.
Home Sweet Home is a personal piece, commenced on 21 March 2026 and completed on 27 April 2026.
Counted Pattern. 14ct Aida in a lovely mossy green. DMC thread in a rich mix of 29 colours. Two stands.
Cross-stitches for the entire pattern.
One of the most interesting challenges with this particular pattern is the amount of negative space around the house and characters. While the chart leaves these areas empty, I often find that unstitched Aida can make a piece feel slightly "unfinished".
My usual solution is to fill these voids with half-stitches using a thread colour that matches the Aida. This creates a suble, low-profile texture that grounds the central image without distracting from the main subject.
However, for this project, I chose a mossy green Aida that is remarkably similar to the green used for the shrubs and grass within the pattern and I'm leaving the negative space open to let the vibrant fabric do the heavy lifting.
The design size: 27.02w x 19.05h (cm).
10,143 total stitches.
This piece is a gift for someone overseas. So rather than risk shipping a framed piece, it'll be wrapped securely in acid-free tissue paper before being packaged, and framed in its new location.
