Every piece created in the Clotho Atelier begins with careful planning and attention to the materials being used. Counted cross stitch is a slow and deliberate craft, and thoughtful decisions about fabric, scale, and finishing all play a part in how the final work will be presented.
Progress will be documented here as the work continues, until the final stitches are complete and the finished piece moves into the Atelier Gallery.
Magical Wizarding Castle is a personal piece, commenced in December 2024.
Counted Pattern. 18ct Aida. DMC thread. Two stands.
Cross-stitches for the entire pattern.
For this project, the original pattern recommends stitching on 14 count aida. I have chosen instead to work the design on 18 count aida, allowing the finished piece to fit within the largest size available from the hoop brand I most often use for finishing and framing.
By adjusting the fabric count, the overall design will appear slightly finer and more detailed, while still remaining true to the original pattern. As with all projects in the atelier, the stitching begins from the centre and gradually expands outward as the design develops.
108 x 183 = 19,764 total stitches.
This piece is currently in progress. Once the stitching is complete, it will be finished in the quality Beechwood 24-26mm deep embroidery hoop it is currently sitting on.
